RIT Kids on Campus is pleased to invite you to… ROC the MISSION
ROC the MISSION is a FREE event to kick off this year’s eCYBERMISSION competition.
eCYBERMISSION (https://www.ecybermission.com/) is a FREE web-based science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competition for students in 6th – 9th grade that promotes self-discovery and enables all students to recognize the real-life applications of STEM. Working in small groups, students use STEM to solve a real problem in their community and submit a “mission folder” detailing their work. Over 20 thousand students compete each year and are awarded prizes at the state, regional and national levels by grade.
Connection with pre-collegiate enrichment/support programs:
eCYBERMISSION fits with the pre-collegiate effort. Plug your STEM enrichment work right into the competition framework while taking advantage of the eCYBERMISSION resources and enabling your 6th-9th grade students to be part of something much bigger. I have found that the community focus of eCYBERMISSION makes all the difference in keeping students engaged with the competition. Your students will identify a problem that is important to them. This really motivates students to keep working and follow through. PLUS – eCYBERMISSION winners are awarded savings bonds for use in college (college scholarships!). This is a great way to start that conversation with your youth.
RIT was awarded a strategic outreach grant to specifically promote the eCYBERMISSION competition in our region and especially to target students from groups historically underserved and underrepresented in STEM. The RIT STEP program will be participating in the RIT kick off event, so your students can rest easy that they will not be alone. It is going to be a fun, welcoming, informative experience.
